I´m gonna be honest with you guys : For me, there is nothing prettier right now than a nice watercolor card + calligraphy combo. I think I am not the only one thinking that, since Pinterest is completely full with those combinations. Still, some decent calligraphy skills are perfect for every occasion… You can use them for birthday wishes, weddings, to highlight headlines and important events in your planner, to impress people, for mothers day, christmas, party invitations, to make time go by faster in class or … for Valentine’s Day
Since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner I wanted to give you some last minute ideas for creating your personal handwritten calligraphy words in 3 simple steps!
What you will need:
- black pens
- Paper (if you want: watercolor paper)
- a word
- Write your word in cursive
So you have your word in your head and your pen in your hand. Perfect! Now, write your word down using cursive handwriting. Its important to leave some space between every letter, because we will be filling it out later on. Practice makes perfect. Its ok, if it doesn’t come out the way you imagined it the first round. Just keep writing and practicing, you will get there, I promise!
2. Find the down strokes
Go ahead and find all the down strokes and make them a little thicker. You will see why it was so important to leave some space in between the letters:)
3. Fill out
You are almost done, great! The last thing you have to do is to fill out all the down strokes you just made thicker. This will create the illusion of calligraphy writing and gives your font some depth.
Awesome! You made it though this 3-step tutorial of how to make handwritten calligraphy words:)
If you practiced a little and feel a bit more safe, you can go ahead and create watercolor cards by simply putting water on watercolor paper and add a little watercolor. The color will run everywhere where your card is wet. When it’s dry you can write your words on the cards using calligraphy handwriting. I promise, it will look super pretty!
Here are some inspirations:
So now you are safe for Valentine’s Day and nothing can go wrong anymore;)
Have a great and romantic Valentine’s Day!
